Hobie - Original Watercolor Painting

This seascape was inspired by some sailboats I saw on a beach in Normandy, France. I've simplified the surroundings and banished the original gloomy day. This is a large version of a weekly watercolor I posted a few months ago.

Lazy Afternoon - Original Watercolor Painting

This is a vignette - a painting that looks like it wasn't quite finished to the edges of the paper. I love the overall pattern this barn makes with the four different-shaped white corner areas of the paper.

Waiting for the Tide - Original Watercolor Painting

The peninsulas that jut out along the Maine coast are filled with small harbors and coves where fishermen and lobstermen ply their trade. The tide changes by as much as 11 feet, leaving docks high above the water at low tide. This particular scene is from an overcast day on Spruce Head Island near Rockland.

Catch Me If You Can - Original Watercolor Painting

I painted this awhile ago.  When I saw this child, she was running from her parents just as fast as she could go.  Cute to watch, unless you are the parents!

Here is a view of the crowded street at the Nyhaven waterfront in Copenhagen. We're looking back toward the city, and the harbor and ships are on the left, out of sight.

Weekend at Honfleur - Original Watercolor Painting

Lake House - Original Watercolor Painting

It's a beautiful day to be out in a boat, and have the lake all to yourself.  This was practice for a demo at my recent Watercolor Workshop, but I never got around to painting it there.  Maybe next time.

Featured at Fine Arts Center in June

I'm being featured at the Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs (626 Central Avenue) during June.  Today we hung the show, which I'm sharing with artist Bill Wells of Mena.  I've attached a photo of one of my display racks.  I have about 25 framed paintings on display, along with 30 or so unframed original paintings in a flip rack.

The opening reception is this coming Friday, June 3, from 5 to 9 pm, during Hot Springs Gallery Walk.  Hope you can drop by, say "Hello", and enjoy the art.

Cotswolds Farmhouse - Original Watercolor Painting

During my recent trip to England, I came upon this farmhouse just north of Moreton-in-Marsh in the Cotswolds.  These old houses are made of butter-colored stone, and stand watch over fields ringed by quaint stone walls that crowd the narrow roads so there's barely enough space for two cars to pass one another.

Northern Passage - Original Watercolor Painting

The north has a unique look and feel - here a sailing ship passes  rugged waterfront cabins resting under a backdrop of huge evergreen trees.

A Far View - Original Watercolor Painting

A lighthouse, a cliff, a person looking out to sea. This painting is loosely based on the Split Rock lighthouse on Lake Superior in Two Harbors, Minnesota.

Hilltop Barn - Original Watercolor Painting

For all of us dyed-in-the-wool barn fans, here's one up on a hill. I like the acute angles from this view, and the old door on the right that's bashed in.

Quiet Evening - Original Watercolor Painting

Here's a new half-sheet watercolor painting of a calm harbor scene in days gone by.  The boats are docked at the wharf, the sun is setting, and the shadows are getting longer and deeper.  The silhouette of the city can be seen in the background.
